Trước kia Hotmail chỉ hỗ trợ POP3 cho người dùng ở các nước phát triển như United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, France, Japan, Spain, Germany, Italy và the Netherlands. Nay Hotmail đã chính thức hỗ trợ cổng truy cập thư điện tử POP3 cho tất cả các người dùng Hotmail trên toàn thế giới.

Là dịch vụ webmail đầu tiên nhưng Hotmail kể từ sau khi được mua lại bởi Microsoft năm 1997 với giá $400 triệu đola đã dần đánh mất vị thế của mình.

Để truy cập Hotmail từ desktop hay điện thoại bạn thiết lập tự chọn như sau:

POP server: pop3.live.com (Port 995)
POP SSL required? Yes
User name: Windows Live ID, ví dụ [email protected]
Password: tương ứng

SMTP server: smtp.live.com (Port 25 or 587)
Authentication required? Yes (this matches your POP username and password)
TLS/SSL required? Yes
